Pirate 101: Intro to Adventure |
"Sailor's Jaunt" - 5 hrs - 750 private or 125pp
"Heart's Delight" - 6 hrs - 900 private or 150pp This is the sweet spot where a sail in the bay begins to be a day of adventure. We may have time to anchor and go ashore or to peek into the watery ways of Maine's craggy coast.
Five hours allows for a brief stop on a nearby island, or simply to see more of the islands and bay. Six hours of charter allows for a more relaxed picnic and some exploratory island wanderings, or just time to sail a squiggly line chasing regal, roving two and three-masted schooners to say "hi," (and often get fresh baked scones tossed our way) then swooping in closer to eye the rugged coast - instead of sailing strictly A to B. It also opens sightseeing destinations in other directions, across or up the bay. |
Land HO!
Lean into itYou can learn a lot from sailboats. When faced with the choice between leaning over or making progress, they gracefully do both.
They use the wind to pry against the water to make the magic carpet work. Bufflehead has particulary sweet manners, and I'm happy to share all I know. |
Pick an IslandBeyond their different histories and uses, the variety of geography among our local islands makes for a buffet of scenic and adventuresome choices.
Some are low and barren, lush and forested, high and cliffy, beachy and covered with roses, uninhabited or resplendent with a rich year round community. There's close to a thousand islands off the Maine coast's 3,000 miles of shore! |
Chase down AdventureAboard Bufflehead, both the journey and the destination are full of adventure. I use my knowledge of the local area, the tides and currents, winds, and vessels, timetables, and highlights to find the most interesting, beautiful things I can for you while you are in my care.
I get to refill people's sense of wonder, and I feel lucky to get to do that. |
I know where to anchor Bufflehead so you can get in a fun hike. Or I can find you a great island spot to picnic. Enjoy your food as you hear the waves gurgle and splash on the beach. Find the perfect rock to skip or make a heart in the sand to stand in the middle of it for that perfect picture that really says "vacation."
There are pristine uninhabited islands to enjoy and there are islands ripe with history and remnants of bustling work and life. We can reach both kinds with these two adventures - or just glide by and enjoy being our own island. |
